Doktorat der technischen Wissenschaften

The academic program "Doktorat der technischen Wissenschaften" is jointly run by the Department of Scientific Computing and the Department of Computer Science. Organizationally, both institutions are a part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria.

The academic program "Doktorat der technischen Wissenschaften" leads to the Austrian academic title "Doktor der technischen Wissenschaften" (doctor of the sciences), which is abbreviated as "Dr. techn." (short for the Latin words "Doctor technicae"). The program takes at least two years. Students may enter this program if they hold an academic title equivalent to the Austrian title "Diplom-Ingenieur" (such as an MSc.), and if they would be be entitled to go for a doctorate at their home university. As the emphasis is on topics related to computer science, prospective students are expected to hold an academic title in computer science or in a closely related field (please, go to "Doktorat der Naturwissenschaften" (German) for information on the doctorate program in natural sciences also offered by our faculty).

Foreign students should note that an in-depth knowledge of German may be waived if their prospective advisor agrees to supervise them in English. However, a working knowledge of German will greatly facilitate daily life at Salzburg.

The detailed requirements for admission to the program and to obtain the doctoral degree can be found in the Studienplan (German).

For a first, quick look at topics of a potential doctoral thesis see a (still incomplete) list of accredited supervisors and their working areas.

This WWW presentation is maintained by the chairman of the Doctoral Studies Committee (Curricularkommission für das "Doktoratsstudium der technischen Wissenschaften"), Dr. Mayer. Please contact him for any specific questions related to this academic program.

Please be aware that Dr. Mayer's administrative agenda only covers the academic parts of the program. The general admission procedure is handled by the admissions office located at:
